“You cannot have independence when you leave in place the machinery of your oppression.”

“Africa should be left on her own to carve out a democracy that suits the prevailing conditions of each particular country.”

“NGOs will not save us, Aid agencies will not save us, the World Bank will not save us, the IMG will not save us.  Salvation is within.”

Poignant words from the documentary, “Motherland.” The film is about the African continent from Ancient Kemet to the present. It is an overview of African history and contemporary issues but with the African people at the center of the story. It is one of the first Pan-African features ever made.
